I grew up on Vancouver Island, where a simple childhood was profoundly shaped by my father’s struggle with Multiple Sclerosis and his passing when I was a teenager. During that season, my brother came to faith through the Navigators at UBC and introduced me to Jesus. Through his influence, I discovered a life centered on intimacy with my Heavenly Father and discipleship—values that continue to shape everything I do.
Over the years, I have served in a variety of ministry contexts, including campus ministry, as a High School teacher in a Christian school, and in many pastoral church roles. Each experience deepened my passion for the next generation, the local church, and helping people experience the transforming power of a relational gospel.
The center of my life is our home. My wife, Debbie, and I had four children until seventeen years ago, when we welcomed a sibling group of five, along with their two cousins, into our family. The joy and life in our home are contagious and have expanded with the addition of four amazing spouses and, in a span of four months, our first four grandchildren!
We have always sought to make our home a place of welcome. Through Debbie’s remarkable gift of hospitality, our family has opened our lives to troubled teenagers, individuals struggling with addiction, international students, and many others seeking hope and support. Having an open home has taught us much about ourselves and even more about the grace of God.
A significant chapter of my ministry has been planting a church in the heart of Vancouver through Every Nation. The ministry team, the church community, and doing church with family, have been incredible gifts. It is life-giving to belong to such a warm and faith-filled church family. I am most encouraged by stories of lives being changed through people embodying God's love, and that has spilled over into church planting efforts across Canada and in Washington, and in sending missionaries to serve existing churches in various nations.
I have the privilege of teaching at Every Nation Seminary, where I teach Relational Discipleship and Pastoral Theology. One of the greatest joys is mentoring students from dozens of nations and watching them grow in theological understanding, relational maturity, cultural relevance, and missional effectiveness.
Alongside pastoring and teaching, I enjoy writing. My work explores how a relational understanding of the gospel shapes discipleship, leadership, pastoral ministry, and everyday life. Whether through books, resources, or speaking engagements, my passion is to see the good news of the gospel transform people’s relationships, both with God and others.
Whether I’m on a date with Debbie, riding my mountain bike, reading with my Father, on a stage, or listening to a friend, I pray that every part of my life would be bathed in the love of God, the life of Jesus, and presence of the Spirit.
